Flowers In The Attic by V.C. Andrews

Writer's picture: Marianne WielandMarianne Wieland

I read this book a long time ago, but I can’t remember the motivation for doing so at the time. I normally like books that are not quite so dark, but as dark as this one was, I kept reading it anyway. The first in the series, this was a tale that triggered thoughts of very dark times in my life and I think that is why I kept reading.

Brilliantly written, there is no humor in this book and it deals with hard topics such as incest and child abuse and neglect. I can remember the book made me see the action and situations in my head and I had much trouble sleeping after reading at night. However, I continued to read until the end. There were more books in the series, but I did not read any of the others. I lost enough sleep with this one.
